The Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda & Tamang Heritage Trek is a challenging 16-day journey through the diverse landscapes and cultures of Nepal’s Langtang region. The route combines the sacred Gosaikunda Lake, spectacular Langtang Valley, high Himalayan viewpoints and traditional Tamang villages in one complete trekking experience.
The trek begins with a local bus journey from Kathmandu to Kutumsang before entering the highland trails toward Mangengoth, Ghopte, Phedi and Gosaikunda. After visiting the sacred lake at 4,380 m, the trail descends toward Thulo Syabru and continues through Lama Hotel and Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa.
At Kyanjin, you choose one high-altitude viewpoint: Kyanjin Ri at 4,773 m or Tserko Ri at approximately 4,984 m. The trek then returns to Lama Hotel before entering the Tamang Heritage section through Briddhim, Nagthali, Tatopani and Gatlang, ending at Syabrubesi.
This trek is ideal for travelers who want more than a single Langtang route. It combines Himalayan scenery, high-altitude trekking, Buddhist culture, sacred landscapes and authentic mountain villages in one 16-day adventure.

The highest trekking elevation depends on your Day 9 choice:
Trekkers choose only one of these viewpoints on Day 9.
The Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda & Tamang Heritage Trek is challenging. It is suitable for travelers with good physical fitness who can manage several consecutive days of mountain trekking and long walking sections.
The route reaches Gosaikunda at 4,380 m and includes a high-altitude viewpoint day from Kyanjin Gompa. Depending on your choice, you can climb Kyanjin Ri at 4,773 m or Tserko Ri at approximately 4,984 m. The trek also involves repeated ascents and descents, uneven mountain trails and several days of 5-7 hours of walking.
The Gosaikunda to Thulo Syabru section is one of the longer days. Although the trail loses substantial elevation, descending for several hours over uneven terrain can still be physically demanding.
The itinerary also includes a gradual transition between different environments. You begin in the hills around Kutumsang, reach high alpine terrain around Gosaikunda, enter the Langtang Valley and later trek through Tamang villages.

The best seasons for the Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda & Tamang Heritage Trek are generally spring and autumn. These seasons usually provide better trekking conditions, clearer mountain views and more stable weather than the summer monsoon period.
| Season | Months | Typical Conditions | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | March-May | Mild temperatures, clear mornings, blooming rhododendrons | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent |
| Summer/Monsoon | June-August | Rain, clouds, muddy or slippery trails | ⭐⭐ Less suitable |
| Autumn | September-November | Stable weather, clear mountain views | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent |
| Winter | December-February | Cold temperatures and possible snow at higher elevations | ⭐⭐⭐ Good for prepared trekkers |
Spring is one of the most attractive periods for this trek. The lower and middle sections can have pleasant trekking conditions, while rhododendron forests add seasonal color to the landscape.
Mountain visibility is often good, particularly during clear mornings.
Autumn is generally considered one of the best trekking seasons in Nepal. After the monsoon, the atmosphere is often clearer, making it a strong period for Himalayan views.
The stable weather also makes the high-altitude sections around Gosaikunda and Kyanjin more attractive.
Winter brings colder conditions, particularly around Gosaikunda, Phedi and Kyanjin. Snow and freezing temperatures can affect higher sections of the trail.
Experienced trekkers who are properly equipped can still consider the trek, but weather conditions should be checked before departure.
The monsoon season brings frequent rainfall to much of the Langtang region. Trails can become muddy and slippery, while clouds may obscure mountain views.
Landslides and road conditions can also affect transportation to and from the trekking area.
For the most comfortable experience, spring and autumn are the seasons we recommend most strongly.
Several permits and registrations may be required for this trekking route. Requirements can change, so the final permit arrangement should always be confirmed according to the current regulations and your exact itinerary.
| Permit / Registration | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Langtang National Park Entry Permit | Required for trekking inside Langtang National Park |
| TIMS or applicable trekker registration | Trekker registration where currently required |
| Other applicable permits | Depending on current regulations and route |
Pathfinder Treks & Expedition handles the required trekking permits and registrations included in the package.
The route does not enter a restricted trekking area such as Manaslu or Upper Mustang. However, the current permit and registration requirements should be confirmed before departure, especially because Nepal’s trekking regulations can change.
You do not need to arrange the permits yourself when they are included in your package. Our team handles the required documentation before and during the trek.
Accommodation throughout the trek is primarily provided in local teahouses and mountain lodges.
The facilities become more basic as you move into higher and more remote sections of the route. Rooms are generally simple, and bathrooms may be shared, particularly at higher elevations.
| Trekking Area | Typical Accommodation |
|---|---|
| Mangengoth | Mountain teahouse/lodge |
| Ghopte | Mountain teahouse/lodge |
| Phedi | Basic teahouse/lodge |
| Gosaikunda | Basic mountain lodge/teahouse |
| Thulo Syabru | Teahouse/lodge |
| Lama Hotel | Teahouse/lodge |
| Langtang Village | Teahouse/lodge |
| Kyanjin Gompa | Mountain teahouse/lodge |
| Briddhim | Local lodge/teahouse |
| Nagthali | Basic mountain lodge/teahouse |
| Tatopani | Local lodge/teahouse |
| Gatlang | Local lodge/teahouse |
| Syabrubesi | Teahouse/lodge |
This is a Himalayan teahouse trek, not a luxury lodge holiday.
You should expect:
Facilities can vary depending on weather, season and local availability.
Meals during the trek are generally based on nutritious and familiar Himalayan trekking foods.
Common options include:
Dal bhat is particularly popular because it provides a filling combination of rice, lentils and vegetables.
Food choices become more limited at higher and more remote settlements. We recommend eating regular meals and staying adequately hydrated throughout the trek.
If you have dietary restrictions, inform us before departure so we can discuss the available options with the lodges along the route.
Transportation is an important part of this itinerary because the trek starts at Kutumsang and ends at Syabrubesi.
On Day 1, you travel from Kathmandu to Kutumsang by local bus before beginning the trek toward Mangengoth.
The journey follows mountain roads and can take several hours depending on road conditions, traffic and local transportation schedules.
After completing the trek, you travel from Syabrubesi back to Kathmandu by local bus.
The return journey generally takes approximately 6-7 hours, although actual travel time can vary because of road and traffic conditions.
Yes. If you prefer greater comfort and flexibility, private transportation can be arranged at an additional cost, subject to vehicle and road availability.
Packing correctly is especially important for this trek because the route reaches 4,000 m and includes a possible viewpoint hike close to 5,000 m.
The viewpoint day can be cold and windy, especially early in the morning. Carry your warm layers, gloves, hat, sunglasses, water and sufficient snacks.
You do not need separate climbing equipment for Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri under normal trekking conditions, but good footwear and trekking poles are strongly recommended.
Because this trek reaches above 4,000 m and includes an optional viewpoint close to 5,000 m, appropriate travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Your insurance should cover:
The route includes several high-altitude overnight stops, with Gosaikunda at 4,380 m and Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 m.
Common altitude-related symptoms can include headache, tiredness, dizziness, nausea and reduced appetite.
Tell your guide immediately if you feel unwell at altitude. Do not continue ascending if you develop concerning symptoms.
Our guides monitor trekkers throughout the route and can adjust the itinerary or arrange descent when necessary.
Mountain weather can change quickly. The final decision about the Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri hike should consider weather, trail conditions and the trekker’s physical condition.
Safety takes priority over reaching a particular viewpoint.
The Langtang region is home to mountain communities, forests, wildlife and culturally important sites. Responsible trekking helps protect these places while supporting local communities.
During the trek, we encourage travelers to:
Trekking responsibly helps preserve the Langtang region for future travelers and the communities that depend on tourism.
The right trek is not necessarily the longest one. Choose this itinerary because you genuinely want the combination of Gosaikunda, Langtang Valley and Tamang Heritage, not simply because it has more days.
Trekking: 6-7 hours Overnight: Mangengoth Elevation: 3,420 m / 11,220 ft
Your adventure begins with a local bus journey from Kathmandu toward Kutumsang. After reaching the trailhead, you begin trekking through the hilly landscape toward Mangengoth.

Gosaikunda sits at 4,380 m, making it the highest overnight point on the itinerary.
Highlights: High-altitude trekking, alpine scenery and sacred Gosaikunda Lake.
Trekking: 6-7 hours Overnight: Thulo Syabru Elevation: 2,250 m / 7,381 ft
Today is one of the longer walking days of the trek. You leave the high-altitude environment around Gosaikunda and descend toward Thulo Syabru.
The trail passes through changing mountain landscapes as you lose significant elevation. The scenery gradually changes from the alpine surroundings of Gosaikunda toward greener and more forested terrain.
Although much of the route is downhill, the long distance and uneven trail require good stamina. After reaching Thulo Syabru, enjoy a well-earned rest at the lower elevation.
Highlights: Long descent from Gosaikunda, changing landscapes and major elevation loss.
Trekking: 5-6 hours Overnight: Lama Hotel Elevation: 2,470 m / 8,103 ft
After breakfast, continue from Thulo Syabru toward Lama Hotel. The trail follows the route into the Langtang Valley through forests and mountain terrain.

Lama Hotel provides a convenient base for continuing deeper into Langtang Valley the following day.
Highlights: Forest trekking, Langtang National Park landscape and peaceful mountain trails.
Trekking: 5-6 hours Overnight: Langtang Village Elevation: 3,430 m / 11,253 ft
Today's trail takes you deeper into Langtang Valley. You continue through forested terrain before the valley gradually opens as you gain elevation.

Trekking: 3-4 hours Overnight: Kyanjin Gompa Elevation: 3,870 m / 12,696 ft
Today is a shorter trekking day as you continue toward Kyanjin Gompa.
The trail gradually climbs through the upper Langtang Valley, with increasingly open mountain scenery. You pass through smaller settlements and alpine landscapes before reaching Kyanjin Gompa.
At approximately 3,870 m, Kyanjin is one of the major highlights of the entire trek. The surrounding mountains create an impressive Himalayan setting, and you will have time to rest and prepare for tomorrow's viewpoint hike.
Highlights: Upper Langtang Valley, Kyanjin Gompa and panoramic mountain scenery.
Trekking: 5-6 hours for Kyanjin Ri or 6-7 hours for Tserko Ri Overnight: Kyanjin Gompa
Today is your major viewpoint day. You choose only one of the two viewpoints.
Elevation: 4,773 m / 15,660 ft Walking: Approximately 5-6 hours
Kyanjin Ri offers a challenging climb with outstanding views across the surrounding Himalayan landscape. It is the lower and generally shorter of the two viewpoint options.
Elevation: Approximately 4,984 m / 16,351 ft Walking: Approximately 6-7 hours
Tserko Ri provides a higher and more demanding viewpoint experience. The climb requires stronger physical effort but rewards trekkers with expansive mountain views.
Your guide can help you choose based on your fitness, weather conditions and how you are responding to altitude.
Important: Only one viewpoint is attempted during the day.
Trekking: 6-7 hours Overnight: Lama Hotel Elevation: 2,470 m / 8,103 ft
After your time in the upper Langtang Valley, begin the descent from Kyanjin Gompa toward Lama Hotel.

Highlights: Descent through Langtang Valley, forest trails and changing mountain landscapes.
Trekking: Approximately 5 hours Overnight: Briddhim Elevation: 2,229 m / 7,312 ft
Today the trek changes character as you leave the main Langtang Valley route and head toward Briddhim.
The trail leads through forest and mountain settlements before reaching the traditional Tamang village of Briddhim. The village offers a more intimate cultural experience and provides an opportunity to learn about local Himalayan life.
The lower elevation also provides a welcome break after the high-altitude sections around Gosaikunda and Kyanjin.
Highlights: Tamang culture, traditional village life and forest trails.
Trekking: 5-6 hours Overnight: Nagthali Elevation: 3,165 m / 10,383 ft
Leave Briddhim and continue toward Nagthali. The trail climbs through forest and mountain terrain as you return to higher elevation.

After reaching Nagthali, settle into the mountain environment and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Highlights: Tamang Heritage Trail, forest ascent, mountain views and Nagthali.
Trekking: 2-3 hours Overnight: Tatopani Elevation: 2,607 m / 8,553 ft

Highlights: Scenic descent, changing vegetation and Tamang villages.
Trekking: 5-6 hours Overnight: Gatlang Elevation: 2,240 m / 7,349 ft
Continue from Tatopani toward Gatlang through the hills of the Tamang Heritage region.
The trail passes through forested landscapes and traditional settlements before reaching Gatlang. This part of the trek focuses more strongly on local culture and village life after the high-altitude experiences of Gosaikunda and Langtang Valley.
Gatlang is one of the important traditional Tamang settlements along this route and provides a memorable cultural experience toward the end of the trek.
Highlights: Tamang culture, traditional architecture, mountain villages and Gatlang.
Trekking: 3-4 hours Overnight: Syabrubesi Elevation: 1,467 m / 4,812 ft
Your final trekking day takes you from Gatlang to Syabrubesi.
The trail gradually descends through the hills toward the road-accessible settlement of Syabrubesi. After completing the route through Gosaikunda, Langtang Valley and the Tamang Heritage section, reaching Syabrubesi marks the end of your trekking journey.
Enjoy your final evening in the Langtang region and celebrate the completion of the 16-day adventure.
Highlights: Final descent, Tamang villages and completion of the trek.
Driving: Approximately 6-7 hours Overnight: Kathmandu
After breakfast, board a local bus from Syabrubesi for the journey back to Kathmandu.
The drive follows the mountain roads toward the Kathmandu Valley. Depending on road and traffic conditions, the journey can take approximately 6-7 hours.
After arriving in Kathmandu, your Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda & Tamang Heritage Trek officially concludes.
Highlights: Mountain road journey and return to Kathmandu.
The Langtang Gosaikunda Tamang Heritage Trek is a challenging trek suitable for physically fit travelers with good stamina. The route includes several 5-7 hour trekking days, high-altitude sections and repeated ascents and descents.
Gosaikunda reaches 4,380 m, while the Day 9 viewpoint hike reaches either Kyanjin Ri at 4,773 m or Tserko Ri at approximately 4,984 m. The long descent from Gosaikunda to Thulo Syabru is also physically demanding.
Previous trekking experience is helpful, but well-prepared beginners with good fitness can undertake the trek with proper acclimatization and an experienced guide.
The highest point depends on your choice on Day 9.
You choose only one viewpoint. The highest overnight elevation is Gosaikunda at 4,380 m.
Gosaikunda Lake sits at approximately 4,380 m / 14,370 ft above sea level. It is one of the most important pilgrimage and trekking destinations in the Langtang region.
The sacred alpine lake is surrounded by rugged mountain terrain and becomes one of the major highlights of this 16-day trek.
Tserko Ri reaches approximately 4,984 m / 16,351 ft. It is the higher and more demanding of the two viewpoint options on Day 9.
The climb involves several hours of uphill and downhill walking at high altitude. Your guide will help you decide whether Tserko Ri is appropriate based on your fitness, altitude response and weather conditions.
Yes, but it is not an easy beginner trek.
First-time trekkers can consider this route if they are physically fit, properly prepared and comfortable with long walking days. The main challenge is the altitude rather than technical climbing.
Beginners should train before the trek and should not underestimate the sections around Gosaikunda and Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri.
The best seasons are generally spring from March to May and autumn from September to November.
These periods usually offer better trekking conditions and clearer mountain views. Spring also brings rhododendron blooms in lower areas.
The monsoon months from June to August can bring rain, muddy trails and poor mountain visibility. Winter is possible for experienced and properly equipped trekkers, but higher sections can be very cold and snowy.
Walking time varies by day, generally ranging from 2 to 7 hours.
The longest days include:
The actual duration can vary according to walking pace, weather, trail conditions and rest stops.
The trek passes through the Langtang region, including Langtang National Park, so the applicable national park entry permit and required trekker registration must be arranged.
Permit and registration requirements can change under Nepal's current trekking regulations. Pathfinder Treks & Expedition handles the required permits included in the package and confirms the latest requirements before departure.
Accommodation is provided mainly in local teahouses and mountain lodges.
Rooms are generally simple and usually arranged on a twin-sharing basis. Bathrooms may be shared, particularly in higher and more remote areas.
Hot showers, charging facilities and Wi-Fi may be available at selected lodges for an additional fee. Facilities become more basic around remote high-altitude settlements such as Gosaikunda and Nagthali.
We strongly recommend trekking with an experienced local guide on this route.
The itinerary includes remote trails, high-altitude sections and route variations between the Langtang Valley and Tamang Heritage areas. A guide can assist with navigation, accommodation, altitude awareness, weather-related decisions and emergencies.
Whether a guide is legally mandatory depends on the current Nepal trekking regulations and the exact route. We confirm the applicable requirements before your departure.
Yes. You can choose Kyanjin Ri instead of Tserko Ri on Day 9.
Kyanjin Ri reaches 4,773 m and is generally shorter and less demanding than Tserko Ri. Tserko Ri reaches approximately 4,984 m and requires a longer, more demanding hike.
You attempt only one viewpoint, not both. The final choice should consider your fitness, altitude response, weather and trail conditions.
The standard package includes the main trekking services such as accommodation during the trek, trekking guide, required trekking permits, guide expenses and scheduled local transportation.
Personal expenses are generally excluded. These can include international flights, Nepal visa, travel insurance, personal equipment, snacks, alcoholic drinks, hot showers, charging fees, tips and emergency evacuation costs.
Always check the "What's Included" and "What's Not Included" sections of the package before booking because the exact inclusions depend on the selected package and services.
Perfect Combination of Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda and Tamang Heritage
